Dr
Jacek Gajewski, 51, is one of the many Polish
Internet popularizers. He has PhD in High Energy
Physics and for many years has worked in huge
international collaborations studying elementary
particle physics. In 1987 he became a scientific
supervisor of the Computer Centre of the Physics
Faculty of Warsaw University. Most of the
milestones of the development of Polish Internet
were done by the enthusiastic staff of this
Computer Centre. Since 1993 he was popularizing
Internet in numerous articles and public
speeches. In 1994 he became a leader of the
"Internet for Schools" project, aiming
at the preparation of a wide, new generation of
the information technology users. The project
ended in 1998 with 1400 schools on-line in 300
cities and is currently continued by the Ministry
of Education. Actually, within the frame of the
University Center for Technology Transfer, he
runs a Deaprtment "Internet for
Schools" company specializing in bringing
into the market new developments in the
telecommunication technology and organizing
Internet related trainings and public events.
Since 1994 he is a Secretary General of the
Central Eastern European Networking Association
(CEENet), which groups research, academic and
educational networks from 23 countries.
Organizes, in collaboration with Open Society
Institute and NATO network technology and network
policy workshops around CEE and FSU countries.
Member of the Internet Society, in 1997, as the
only Pole sofar, he was nominated as candidate to
the Board of Trustees of this most prestigeus
world-wide Internet organization.
